The truth about IPLIPL or Intense Pulsed Light is the method by which women, and men also, can get rid of unwanted hair on the face and body for quite a long period of time. IPL is definitive (hair roots are destroyed) when the treatment is done correctly.IPL has three important characteristics:- photo depilation (as depilation refers to hair above and below the skin)- progressive (because it’s done in time, not all at once) - long term (because it is invented and used widely for only 10-15 years and nobody has covered yet the average life of a person - 70 years for women, men at 60 years - to declare with certainty that it is "final"). IPL is final because these folliculitis once destroyed cannot be recreated. The IPL treatmentIPL is performed with the help of light. The light used in this process comes from either a laser or from a device with intense pulse light.Light used in the treatment of IPL must have certain characteristics that are dictated by the hairs and skin. Thus, the wave length, intensity, power, time of action, relaxation time must be suited to the thickness of the hair, hair color, the depth at which the folliculitis is located in skin (more profound in the inguinal area, for example) and skin color (there are 6 types of skin according to Fitzpatrick scale, from albino to black African). ![]() The IPL sessions are scheduled according to an algorithm that respects the hair growth, because we never have all of our hair grown at the same time. Hairs grow by a "program" that has 3 phases: of growth, stagnation and regression. IPL treatment is useful and effective only in the phase in which the hair is growing, this is the moment in which the heat produced is conducted by the hair straight to germination cellules of the folliculitis. In any of the other two phases, the treatment has not accomplished it’s purpose (the destruction of roots). So the only phase in which the IPL treatment will succeed is the phase of growth. To make sure that you "catch" the hair in the growth phase you must repeat the treatment. The time between 2 sessions of treatment is different depending on the area you want to use IPL on. If you are one of those people who epilates above the upper lip (mustache), you may notice that your hair grows out more quickly than the legs. It happens so, because we are all genetically programmed; so meetings of facial depilation is done at a time different from those for legs or axilla. It is a huge and fundamental difference between definitive depilation and total depilation. After each session of depilation, the result is total, but temporary. What does this mean? The hair that is in the phase of growth falls completely (or almost all), but the effect remains only until the next meeting when the "wave 2 or wave 3 ... 5.6" get to the stage of growth and then become visible on the surface of the skin. The hair does not grow back, but is simply another hair from roots other than those which have already been destroyed prior to the meeting. Thus, after the treatment course consisting of 6, 8, 10 or 12 sessions of IPL you may see that the depilation is partial, but definitive. The treatment of IPL can never destroy all hair in a specific area, whether axilla, bikini or legs. It will always remain some miniaturized hairs. Here are some orientate result depending on the area and percentage of getting rid of the hair: - axilla 80-90%; - inguinal area 90-95%; - face 50-70%; - thighs 60-70%; - legs 90-95%. IPL is considered to be final when the result remains at least as the duration of a complete cycle of growth of hairs. Although there were claims in time, none of the renowned clinics in the U.S. or Western Europe give guarantees on all hair remove. The reason is that folliculitis are controlled by hormones and one cannot foresee with certainty whether a person will have some hormonal fluctuation that will stimulate the appearance of other folliculitis, transforming it in terminal, thick and pigmented hair. You know now what IPL is and how you should do it. It is very important to keep in mind the 3 phases of growth and to check if you have any hormones disorders in order to obtain the best results from IPL. |
